This stunning tiger maple sideboard is beautiful inside and out. Viewing the uniquely extreme curl of the maple, you will believe that there are small hills and valleys on the surface of the wood, only to be astonished upon feeling it that the surface is perfectly flat and smooth. This sideboard is an outstanding conversation piece which is functional as well.
Just as with the uniqueness of the wood, we spared nothing in the construction system and details. The frame is not stick built and glued together. It consists of a fully dovetailed case supported by Hepplewhite legs which are also dovetail joined to the case. The dovetail joinery of the case assures that all the component parts swell and shrink as one, eliminating joinery problems caused by seasonal changes in humidity. The drawers are all half blind dovetailed with tiger maple fronts, cherry sides, and thick white basswood bottoms with edges beveled as in 18th Century casework. The hardware is the best available. We turned the knobs from curly maple in what we believe to be exactly the right style and proportion.
